Questions

What will I learn?

Japanese from your first kana to JLPT N5: kana, vocabulary, kanji, grammar, reading and listening. There are timed mock exams in the JLPT format, and a review queue that helps you revise.

I already know some Japanese. Do I start from the beginning?

No. Tell HeyShima your level when you start, and if you are past kana you can begin on the N5 course. Each volume ends with a test, and passing it with 80% or more marks the whole volume done.

Will I lose my progress if I change devices?

No. Your progress is saved to your account, so progress will be saved across devices.

When is it out, and is it on Android?

HeyShima will launch on iPhone first, targeting December 2026. Join the waitlist and we will email you when it launches. There is no Android version at launch.

What is the free JLPT N5 checklist?

A printable checklist of everything on the JLPT N5. You can read it on this site for free, no email needed. If you would like the PDF, we will email it to you. We are also currently working on more free printable materials.
